TCCA Junior, Joshua Kalar, is slated to graduate from the Civic Leadership
Academy of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College
on Saturday, July 23rd. Joshua was among an elite class of high school
students throughout the state that were selected to participate in the
residential week long program exposing the students to a rigorous program
of experiential study in both state and local government under the direction
of college professors.
Students toured the State House, Supreme Court and Manchester City Hall;
witnessed a bill signing by Governor Lynch at the New Hampshire State
House; studied various aspects of New Hampshire government and politics,
including economic development, political journalism, and environmental
conservation; and heard directly from those with firsthand knowledge of
the civic, electoral, and governing process.
Of the more than 30 distinguished guest speakers, students had the opportunity
to hear from Governor John Lynch, Secretary of State William Gardner,
Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas, Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley, Superior
Court Justice Robert Lynn, former Speaker of the House Donna Sytek, and
President and CEO of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce Robin Comstock.

The Motorcycle Mechanics elective course is open to a limited number
of senior high students, who leave school to attend classes at a shop
location in Somersworth, where instruction in motorcycle theory and maintenance
practice is provided. Hands-on work on donated shop motorcycles, occasional
service work on customer motorcycles, and even participation in an annual
vintage motorcycle race bike project are all parts of this course.

Senate Session, this providing a firsthand learning experience regarding
the role of the legislators in state government.
Mallory and Victoria were asked to assist the Senate Clerk's Office,
and other staff members with a variety of duties that serve to advance
the legislative process.
