Music

TCCA offers a variety of musical activities including band, orchestra, special choral groups, and private lessons on stringed instruments, piano, and most band instruments.

Band and Orchestra

There are many wonderful reasons to participate in band or orchestra. Having the skill to perform a musical instrument has been one of the most cherished accomplishments throughout history. The benefits of playing an instrument are many. Studies have shown that it enhances a student's academic performance in math, language arts, foreign language and other academic areas. Playing an instrument can bring joy and fulfillment like no other activity.

Orchestra is an ensemble composed primarily of the stringed instruments: violin, viola, 'cello, and bass. Some wind and percussion instruments may be added for certain musical pieces. Band is an ensemble composed of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. A pianist may accompany either ensemble.

Elementary Orchestra - Grades 3 - 6

The Elementary Orchestra is offered weekly to students who wish to play one of the stringed instruments. Music for performance will be chosen based on the instrumentation and level of experience of the students in the ensemble. Beginners are welcome to participate along with more experienced students. All students will be expected to practice their parts at home, as well as to attend all rehearsals. The group will perform at the school's December and June concerts.

Advanced String Ensemble - Grades 7 and up

The Advanced String Ensemble is open to older students who play any of the orchestral instruments. This year we will meet one morning each week at 8:00 a.m. at the West High Street Campus. All students will be expected to practice their parts at home, as well as to attend all rehearsals. The group will perform at the school's December and June concerts.

Elementary Band - Grades 4 and up

The purpose of Elementary Band is to begin to familiarize our students with musical performance and is preparation for later involvement in our Concert Band.

Concert Band - Grades 7-12

The TCCA Concert Band meets for sectional rehearsals and one full band rehearsal each week during the school day. At band class, students learn a variety of music, while preparing for performances in the Christmas and spring concerts as well as the graduation ceremonies in June.

Vocal Opportunities

High School Select Chorus

This group, for the serious singer, is open to only 10 students by audition only and is a graded class. We will be singing fun, upbeat songs, as well as traditional, madrigals and spirituals. We will perform at two concerts per year, Christmas and Spring, and we will also participate in choir festivals and outreach to nursing homes and other events in the area. This is our competition Chorus and we have received several accolades over the past few years. We will likely be singing in the Music in the Parks competition in Agawam (MA) as well as Performing Arts Consultants in Agawam.

Private and Semi-Private Music Lessons

Private and semi-private lessons are offered at Tri-City Christian Academy on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, percussion, bass, guitar, violin, viola, cello, piano and voice (depending on student interest and scheduling). Lessons may be held before, during, and after the school day. Contact the school for more information.
